Types of Assisted Living Facilities

A wide variety of assisted living facilities are available for elderly seniors and disabled persons. Many of the facilities provide special care for people with MEMORY LOSS, DEMENTIA, ALZHEIMER'S, DIABETES, PARKINSON'S, STROKE, INCONTINENCE, OSTOMY and HOSPICE needs. I provide FREE placement assistance because I am reimbursed by the assisted living facilities.

TYPES OF ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES(Detailed description of each below the following list.)
---RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES
---ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES
---ADULT FOSTER CARE HOMES
---SKILLED NURSING HOMES
---REHABILITATION CENTERS

RESIDENTIAL CARE CENTERS
---It is a care facility housing six or more elderly senior or disabled residents that has on-duty supervision but medical services are not provided. Daily living assistance, such as help with dressing, bathing and grooming is available. When a resident requires more assistance, they may bring in a caregiver or transfer to another kind of facility. Meals and minimum housekeeping are usually included. Medication supervision is supplied but special diets usually are not. Laundry is usually not included. Licensed by the state.

ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES
---A residential care facility, not licensed as a nursing home, that provides personal care, 24-hour supervision and some support services to the elderly senior or disabled who need help with daily activities. These communities go by a variety of names and are sometimes affiliated with independent living communities or nursing care facilities. Some offer nursing services similar to Residential Care Facilities. Licensed by the state.

ADULT FOSTER CARE HOMES
---The county licenses residential homes to care for up to five elderly senior or disabled residents in a very home-like setting...some include children and pets. There are homes to suit every taste and need, including hospice care. All meals, laundry and cleaning are included, at no extra cost. Nursing care is under the supervision of the Doctor or RN delegation. Many will take clients suffering from dementia, Alzheimer's, diabetes and incontinence. Home-cooked meals, special diets and medication are included.

SKILLED NURSING HOMES
---A skilled nursing home can stand alone or be a part of another facility and provides the highest level of nursing home care. Registered nurses provide round-the-clock care and Medicare pays for some benefits for the elderly in a skilled nursing facility. Licensed by the state.

REHABILITATION CENTERS
---These are used for rehabilitation after strokes, falls, accidents, etc. and the patients are often released for further placement in a home or care facility.

Most assisted living facilities accept both private pay individuals as well as individuals on Medicaid.
