Assisted Living Facility Placement Procedure
Many adults are now dealing with aging parents and most of them find the process of locating and choosing an appropriate elder or senior assisted living facility, from the many choices, as a very new, frustrating and difficult situation. Roles are changing, parents are changing, lives are thrown into turmoil and the assisted care options are confusing...not to mention, expensive. A similar situation exists when trying to place a disabled person in an appropriate disabled care facility. My job, AT NO COST, is to cut through all the confusion for you and to stay close-by during this crisis to offer support, advice, referrals, introductions and answers. I am reimbursed by the assisted living facilities.
My service is an innovative and very essential problem solving procedure to help with the many concerns brought about with the many aging seniors who need long term care in an assisted living facility.
First, I begin by talking with the family, gathering important information about the family and their parent or relative in need of assisted care. I try to get a good feel for the lifestyle of the loved one and what problems and fears are facing them.
Then, I meet with their parent or relative...sometimes this takes place in a nursing home, rehabilitation center, in their own home, in an assisted living facility, or while living with family members. Next, I do a complete evaluation to determine not only health and service needs but personal preferences in regard to smoking, pets, hobbies, children, etc.
After that, I then match this person to the elder care facilities or the disabled care facilities that best meet their needs. All care facilities that are recommended have been personally visited and thoroughly checked out. I have very firm ideas on what constitutes an appropriate care facility. Their records are checked for any complaints. Although all the care facilities are licensed either by the county or the state, I add my own criteria to how the care facility "feels", how the residents are treated by the staff and how well I feel my client will fit into the care facility.
After determining which care facilities are the best matches, I personally take the family to meet the owners, managers and caregivers of these facilities. The families then usually take their loved one to visit the top choices, perhaps to have lunch, and to see where we can make as perfect a match as possible.
I follow up the placement to make sure the move-in was as smooth as possible and that the family and the loved one have all "survived" the crisis. Usually, I find that very soon the loved one settles in and sees the new environment as "their" home.
I refuse to believe the world will become so technical that the personal touch will disappear.
