Assisted Living Communities
Assisted Living is not the same as a nursing home or adult foster home, though many assisted living facilities do perform some of those functions. Assisted Living is for people who want to live independently but need help with some activities such as cooking, cleaning, managing medications, and household maintenance. Typically, the amount of care given is established up front and reviewed periodically for the greatest comfort of the resident.
Assisted Living Facilities hold between 40 to over 100 residents and provide caregivers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for seniors that may need help with the activities of daily living. Some are stand-alone facilities, while others are connected with other types of assisted living facilities, like memory care.
Residents have their own private apartment with private bath and are provided with daily meals and lots of service and amenity options such as transportation, a beauty salon, laundry service, housekeeping, wellness programs, a library, and a community area for socializing.
Most assisted living communities do not offer nursing care around the clock, but will have a nurse on duty during certain hours who is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is ample opportunity for activity and interaction with other community members.
